Beyond the Yellow Ribbon
Kim Hummel
A Yellow Ribbon County unites key areas and communities throughout a county to create a comprehensive network that connects and coordinates county-level agencies, organizations, resources and employers for the purpose of proactively supporting Servicemembers and military families. In addition, a Yellow Ribbon County connects and supports Yellow Ribbon Communities to provide military family support at the local level.

Since 9/11, thousands of Minnesotans have served our country. By developing a Yellow Ribbon County Network, county communities unite to honor and embrace those affected by military deployments. The outward showing of support enables successful transition all the way home. The county’s effort transcends the military to any group in need and builds stronger, more compassionate communities.

Jackson County Historical Society
Mike Kirchmeier
Our hours are Monday through Friday 9:30 am, to 4:30 pm and on Saturdays from 8:00 am to noon.

The Jackson County Historical Society was originally started as the "Old Settlers' Association" 1925. The group continued to have annual picnics until 1929 and then languished. In 1946, Mr. A.E.F. Glaser and Ed Lafot called the group to reorganize and formed the Jackson County Historical Society affiliated with the Minnesota State Historical Society.

The JCHS is a 501(C)3 non-profit society. For a short time, the society used the farmers room at the county courthouse for meetings and it's display area. In 1950 the Halsten-Olson log cabin, donated by Mr. and Mrs. Osmund Halsten, was moved to the county fairgrounds (Jackson) by the society. In 1958 the District-5 schoolhouse followed. Until the 1970's these two buildings and the farmer's room contained the society's collections. A new building was sought when the Farmers Exchange building in Lakefield became available in 1974. Here, the museum has expanded to over 4500 sq feet of a climate-controlled area...with a large amount of display area and small amount of storage. With the help of the fair board, the society moved the Stall Church to the fairgrounds. Throughout the 1970's-80's the Holthe log cabin was rebuilt by the society, and many commemorative signs have been placed around the county.

The Minnesota Mafia

The Minnesota Mafia was founded in 2012 by a group of Sprint Car fans who realized it was getting harder and harder for race teams to make it to the track due to the cost of our sport. In turn, fans like us had fewer cars at the track to watch and fewer meaningful races to attend. We thought, with the help of other race fans and sponsors, we could do something about that sobering realization. Our explicit purpose is summed up perfectly in our motto: Race Fans Helping Racers.  Check out our facebook page for the latest information!
